Is the Display of the Energy Certificate Mandatory?

1. Existing commercial and service buildings with an internal usable floor area of 1000 m² or more, or 500 m² in the case of shopping centers, hypermarkets, supermarkets, and indoor swimming pools;
2. Buildings owned and occupied by a public entity and frequently visited by the public with an internal usable floor area greater than 250 m².

In summary, the owners of buildings in the cases described above must display the Energy Certificate prominently and visibly at their entrance.

This obligation arises from the Decree-Law No. 101-D/2020, of December 7, which defines the complementary model of the Energy Certificate that must be displayed.

Does this obligation apply to residential property owners, for example?

Owners of residential properties are exempt from visibly displaying the Energy Certificate.
